    Gir-Somnath District is a District of Gujarat. It is located in Saurashtra Region with its headquarters at the town of Veraval. The town Veraval has a population around 3.5 Lacs. The town of Veraval is congregated with Daulat press, Vakhariya Bazar, Gandhi Chowk, Sattabazar, Kharakuva, Turk Chaura, Harshidhdhi Society, Garib Navaz, Bihari Nagar, Aditya Park, Rayon housing etc, which come under administration of Veraval Municipality.

    Gir-Somnath Revenue District was split from Junagadh District in August 2013, when seven new Districts came into existence in Gujarat. Thereafter, the Judicial District of Gir-Somnath was established on the line of Revenue District in June 2016. Veraval, Talala, Sutrapada, Kodinar, Una and Gir-Gadhada are the Talukas of Gir-Somnath District.

    The Gir-Somnath District is famous for pilgrimage place of Somnath Temple which has the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. It is one of most visited pilgrimage and tourist spot of Gujarat. The major part of the District is located nearby the western coast of Gujarat and the Gir-Sanctuary Park.

    Currently, the District Court is functioning in existing Old Civil Court building with four Courts in head-quarter which was constructed in the year of 1978. The head-quarter has also another two flour building namely F.T.C. was constructed in the year of 2006.

    As far as Empowerment of Justice concern, there are total 17 Courts working in the District, where Four Courts of Appellate, Four Courts of Civil Judge (S.D.) and Nine Courts of Civil Judge (J.D.) are functioning in total. The District head-quarter of Veraval is working with 2 Appellate, 2 Senior Division and 2 Junior Division Courts as well as District Legal Service Authority and the Juvenile Justice Board. The Taluka Court of Una is empowered with an Appellate Judge, 2 Senior Civil Judge and 2 Civil Judges. Another major Taluka of Kodinar has an Appellate Court and two Courts of Civil Judge. The rest of Taluka Places like, Talala, Sutrapada and Gir-Gadhada has a separate Court of Civil Judge(J.D.) to each. The first ever Lok Adalat in the history of India was held in Una City of Junagadh (now under Gir-Somnath) in 1982.
